Mobile Phone Usage Prohibited at Kedarnath Temple Following YouTuber’s Marriage Proposal

Authorities further emphasized that pilgrims who fail to comply with the instructions will face legal consequences.

The Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC), responsible for overseeing the renowned Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand, has implemented a ban on the use of mobile phones within the temple premises. This decision follows a video posted by YouTuber Vishakha Fulsnunge, where she proposed to her boyfriend just outside the Kedarnath temple. To enforce this ban, authorities have installed signs at various locations within the temple premises, explicitly stating that mobile phones are not allowed, photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the temple, and visitors are under the surveillance of CCTV cameras.

According to BKTC president Ajay Ajendra, pilgrims have been strongly advised to maintain modest attire during their visit to Kedarnath.

“In order to uphold the sanctity of the temple, pilgrims are urged to dress modestly. In the past, there have been instances of some individuals indecently filming and taking photos inside the temple,” Mr. Ajendra stated.

Furthermore, authorities have emphasized that strict legal measures will be taken against pilgrims who fail to adhere to the directives.

Regarding the Badrinath Dham, Mr. Ajendra mentioned that no complaints have been reported thus far, which is why no ban has been enforced at that location. However, if any complaints are received in the future, warning signs will be installed there as well.

Last month, Ms. Fulsunge shared a video on her social media platforms, capturing a moment where a man was seen in prayer, followed by the YouTuber kneeling down to propose to him with a ring. The man, taken aback by the unexpected gesture, responded with a ‘Yes,’ and the couple embraced tightly.

The video sparked a divisive reaction online, with some users perceiving no issue with the act, while a significant portion of the internet deemed it disrespectful.

Some individuals expressed the viewpoint that the actions in question compromised the sacredness of the Kedarnath temple.
