Elon Musk’s choice to be the Travis County, Texas, district attorney was not successful on Tuesday

Elon Musk’s choice for Travis County, Texas, district attorney was not successful on Tuesday, only hours after the Tesla CEO encouraged staff members to follow his example in an email to the entire organisation.

Early on Super Tuesday, José Garza overcame Democratic opponent Jeremy Sylestine, winning by a margin of more than thirty points. Musk seems to have taken down his endorsement of Sylestine post on the social media platform X.

Sylestine ran on a platform calling for increased jury trials, increased prosecution of cases, and increased funding for public safety programmes. Musk, who moved Tesla’s headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin after relocating from California to Texas a few years ago, has reportedly met with former President Donald Trump in Florida over the weekend. Musk has also become more outspoken when it comes to politics.

Additionally, two of Musk’s other businesses, The Boring Company and a sizable SpaceX plant, are located in Texas.

Musk stated on X on Wednesday that he will “not directly donate money” to any presidential contender in 2024; yet, documents available on OpenSecrets.org show that he and his businesses have previously made contributions to campaign committees and political action committees.

Musk posted on X, “Sorry to bother everyone with this note as it applies to people in the greater Austin area, but please go to the polls and vote for a new District Attorney,” and included a link to the since-deleted post.

After that, Musk sent out a second email to the entire business that said, “It’s important to note that Jeremy Sylestine is a moderate Democrat and not a Republican. In the primary, he is up against an incumbent who leans far left.

Musk has portrayed himself as an independent voter, but his public political commentary has been shifting to the right for years. In the past, he has backed presidential candidates Andrew Yang and his friend Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. Without offering any proof, he charged President Joe Biden of “treason” in a series of posts on X on Tuesday.

In 2022, Musk backed Texas Republican Mayra Flores in her bid for Congress. He is now supporting Marty O’Donnell, a popular video game composer who is a Republican candidate for Congress in Nevada.

Recirculating an O’Donnell post on X, Musk tweeted on Tuesday, “I hope more people like Marty run for office.”
